Production Process

1
PREPARATION OF THE GLASS BATCH

The raw material for traditional glass production is quartz sand and additives: sodium carbonate, calcium carbonate, potassium carbonate and often is added also barium oxide enriching the batch and pigments. To the raw materials mixture is added also glass cullet. The materials are mixed and transported to the oven.

GLASS MELTING

The mixture melting process take place in device called bath or glass furnace. This is a huge chamber in which the temperature is about 1400 C. In the furnace the mixture is melted into a liquid mass.

HAND MADE GLASS

Hot melted glass in the shape of bubble is placed on the end of long, thin metal tube called blowpipe. Then glassblower forms a shapeless mass by rotating the blowpipe and blowing into it in such a way to slowly grew into desired shape. Hand made production is made by 5-6 persons teams, which includes: 4 glassblowers and 1-2 assistants. For production are used specially designed and previously manufactured iron moulds.

ANNEALING OF GLASS

Still hot, ready glass shades are placed in annealing oven, in which they are losing the temperature in controlled way. The annealing oven has dozen meters length, through its center runs the conveyor belt, on which are placed ready still hot glass shades. The conveyor moves products with very low speed throughout the interior of the annealing oven.
The process begins with a rapid re-heating the article to a temperature of approximately 500 degrees and then gradually cooled to a room temperature. The slowly cooling of the glass removes Thanks to the slow cooling of glass the stresses in the glass shade are removed and this prevent cracking in the future.

FIRST QUALITY CONTROL

After annealing each glass shade is controlled in terms of quality. Because the glassworks produces glasses for lighting industry, all glasses are tested with a suitable light source.

Treatment of glass

Our machine park allows us to perform a wide range of glass processing.
Thanks to use of special equipment and diamond discs we perform, depending on the project: cutting, drilling, grinding, polishing, sandblasting glass.

OTHER POSSIBILITIES – PAINTING OR MATTING

Depending on the project, the glass shades can be painted or matted. The glass for painting first has to be degreased, and then is spray painted on the whole surface or hand painted in required patterns. Painted glass is placed in a special oven where the glass is heated in temperature from 100 to 500 C degrees to strengthen the paint.
Matting is a chemical process, which consists in immersing the product in container with a specific acid. Etching makes the glass is opaque, and gives the surface of glass a silky, nice in touch finish.

FINAL QUALITY CONTROL AND PACKAGING

At the last stage of production glass is again controlled in terms of dimensions, fit with the metal base and aesthetics. At the end the glass is packed in standard brown carton boxes or in special boxes according to customer requirements.
